Special Processes in Manufacturing Industries

Important information while facing interview questions about special process.  As all of you know, there are some special processes in manufacturing industries - Basic question in Interview -  Why "special" word has been given to these processes?  Answer - Special Processes are the processes whose output cannot be verified. Destructive testing is the only method in which the output of special processes can be measured or monitored.  Example - CQI 15 - Welding process is a special process. Because, welding quality can only be verified by destructive test that is called penetration test. We should cut the welded parts to check how much penetration depth has been achieved in parent materials.  List of special process -  Casting | CQI‑27 Coating | CQI‑12 Heat Treat | CQI‑9 Molding | CQI‑23 Plating | CQI‑11 Rubber | CQI‑30 Soldering | CQI‑17 Welding | CQI‑15 Basic Question - What is the full form of CQI?  C - Continual Q - Quality I - Improvement.  The benefits of using system ass

Basic Question & Answers -  What are the 5 core tools of Quality Management. 1. APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) 2. PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) 3. FMEA (Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) 4. SPC (Statistical Process Control) 5. MSA (Measurement System Analysis) PPAP - Stands for "Production Part Approval Process". It is one of the core tools of Quality Management.  PPAP is the outcome of APQP. Who submits PPAP & to whom? Suppliers submits PPAP to Customer.  When should supplier conduct PPAP? When supplier is being produced a new Part -  When there is change in existing drawing that is called ECR -  When there is change in existing process, methods, materials -  What are the 18 Documents of PPAP -  1. Component / Part Drawing  2. ECR (Engineering Change Document) 3. Customer Engineering Approval 4. Design failure Mode & Effect Analysis  5. Process Flow Diagram  6. PFMEA (Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) 7. Con

Useful Definitions in Quality Management

5 Why - A best method to find out the root cause of the problem by repeating the question why. Each question creates the base for the next question. By 5 why the questions reach to the fifth level to get the root cause of the problem.  Note - It is not mandatory to reach up to the fifth level question to get the root cause of the problem. Root cause may find out at third or fourth level also. 8D - In case of customer complaint, 8D that is Eight Disciplines, is the standardize method of problem solving's. For the detail check my last blog - "G8D _ Problem Solving Tool in Quality". G8D - G Stands for 'Global'. + 8D. G8D starts from D0. 8D starts from D1. 4M - It includes - Man, Machine, Method & Material. It's a change management strategy. Supplier should inform to customer for any 4M changes within an organisation. 3M - Muda, Mura, Muri. Muda - Toyota has developed this production system to eliminate three enemies of lean manufacturing concept. Muda -

G8D _ Problem Solving Tool in Quality

G8D - Problem Solving Tool in Quality  Everyone is aware about 8D, but you know what is G8D? G Stands for Global, 8D stands for 8 Disciplines. More about G8D -   In the late 1990s, Ford developed a revised version of the 8D process that they call "Global 8D" (G8D), which is the current global standard for Ford and many other companies in the automotive industries. 8D has 8 steps & G8D has 9 steps,  G8D Steps are -  D0 - Emergency response actions -  This is an instant act against the reported customer complaint to avoid the customer line stoppages. One from supplier should visit at customer end immediately. Quality alert should display at respective manufacturing lines to aware those who is working & taking care of that particular product. D1 - Define a cross function team  CFT is group of people with different functional expertise. When you are solving a problem of product quality, CFT includes one from manufacturing, one from quality, process experts / manufacturing
